About Mr Tony Owa

Mr Tony Owa is a well-regarded Consultant ENT Surgeon and specialist in neuro-otology based in London and Essex.

Mr Tony Owa undertook his primary medical training in Benin, Nigeria, and returned to the UK shortly after qualifying to undergo specialist training in ENT in London.

He worked at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital where he had specialist training in allergies and sinus related diseases. He also worked at the National Hospital for Neurological and Neurosurgical diseases where he trained in ear and brain conditions relating to ENT surgery, which includes balance related problems. Mr. Tony Owa was granted the Alice Maud trust grant to pursue specialist training.

He later completed an ear and skull base surgery fellowship in Utah, USA, during which, he was awarded the American Neuro-otology Society Fellows Award for 2002. He subsequently joined Barking, Havering and Redbridge University trust in 2003 as an ENT surgeon and neuro-otologist offering a wide range of surgery, including specialised otology and lateral skull base surgery. He left the trust December 2019.

He was made a fellow of the West Africa College of Surgeons for his work training ENT surgeons and charity surgical missions. He also took a year-long career break helping to develop ENT services in Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Lagos, Nigeria, particularly with setting up the cochlear implant programme. He returned to complete a Masters of Science in medical otology and audiology at University College, London in 2017.

Mr Tony Owa sees both children and adults, specialising in complex ear diseases, particularly patients with balance problems, snoring and sinus (nose)-related disease. He specialises in ear surgery (including endoscopic ear surgery), rhinology, and paediatric ENT. He designed a grommet (the ‘Owa grommet' - a tiny ventilation tube for the treatment of middle ear disease) that is used in the treatment of children with otitis media (glue ear). He also sees patients with voice-related problems, salivary gland disease, as well as general ENT problems (e.g. chronic tonsillitis).

He is an expert in his field, having presented on several ENT topics at many national and international conferences and has taught on sinus and ear surgery courses both in the UK and overseas.
